Currently I have two free websites for this venture: one at Weebly and one at Wix. The Weebly site is more intuitive and easier to modify, but the free e-commerce limits you to three items at a time. I don’t know of any fees associated with those sales, however. The Wix website is something I feel never meets my expectations, but I don’t know if that’s just due to my design shortcomings or to their options. They seem to have fee-free e-commerce now, but I haven’t played around with it much.
I’ve also played around with Webs, which hasn’t seemed very fruitful.
I’ve been looking into purchasing a real domain and paying for hosting. My brother is much more techy than I and recommends GoDaddy, but I really don’t want to be their customer. I’ve heard too many bad things about both their service and their [lack of] ethics.
I’m looking for a website domain registrar and host that offers the following:
- WordPress integration
- Good SEO and I know several give ad credits, which would definitely help me out
- Easy to use, safe, and reliable e-commerce
- Easy to customize and professional appearance
It’s also very important that the website be as green as possible (or as green as I can afford).
Which brings me to my final point: at this time I do not have very many sales under my belt (around 20) and I have a very limited budget, so as close to free as possible is ideal. I really don’t think I can afford the $30/month plans some websites have.
So far my favorite potential host is AISO.net, which is the greenest of the options.
Many of the available options are very expensive – or at least seem that way to me, someone with low-to-no income.
